RE: Wylex consumer units - type C required

I suppose we are all more interested to get things right in our own places.

It is very hard pulling wires when on your own but I do find it quite gratifying when you know you have done a good job and of course when you DIY you are not worried about the time...time being money etc...

The local shop I mentioned, and often do, sent a young lad round to fit me a new consumer unit about 1 year ago and I was amazed at his quality of workmanship.

He had to run a new earth wire from the box to an earth point(/0 and I saw him making sure the wire ran true along the wall, a true pro.

I mentioned this to his employers and they said he is a good worker and thanked me for my praise. I think we as a nation are all to quick in criticising work but seldom give praise when due.

Brian

Funny - its for my folks as well and it is the old cartridge type. It looks
like I am going to have to change out the box for a din rail one.

Have you noticed, we as HA'ers do a much better job than professional
electricians? (I know I am just going to get flamed now)

Cheers

J

Hi John,

I have an excellent electrical shop nearby that I buy all my electrical
stuff from but I did notice in B&Q Warehouse they had rows of all this
stuff, give them a try?

I am not sure on this but I think the Type C can not fit into these boxes?

The Type C fits on a din rail but if your box has the old cartridge fuse
holders I am not sure if they can be converted?

Actually, my Mum has an old fuse box with the Type B's in and I am meant to
be getting this changed as she can not shut the lid, shoddy electricians
changed it after her house was flooded!

I would be interested how you get on.

HTH,

B.

Hi

I have a Wylex made electrical fuse box or consumer unit that is full of
type B MCB's and am after type C MCB's for it.

They look like

CB_s__Rewirable____Cartridge_Fuses_152.html (the first item on the page)

Can anyone help?

Cheers
