What Holux unit? what cost?
I assume the TomTom software can be used on its own?
Cuts the initial outlay down a bit....

I have used loads of different gps software, and TomTom is the best, I
use the Holux and it's a a very good unit, cold fix about 60 seconds,
walm fix about 10 seconds
