You might also consider surface mounted spots (GU10 as well) in the
same positions as your intended flush mounts.

We used a mix of exactly flush and spots in our build with X10 din
rail and it all works well.

We sourced from Green Island www.greenisland.co.uk (Check out
the 'Decorative mains halogen - Space Mains Halogen' - pretty tech
too).  They gave us a good discount as a self builder so you may also
do well on a renovation.

Very helpful they were on the phone too.
