I have an RS device (part no 290-2605) for this - a 50 foot coil of special
stiff "fish tape"  wire for running/pulling network cables etc -
available for free loan!  Email me your address off list and I will post it
out!

Gareth,

Bamboo canes (from a garden centre) worked for me. For longer runs I duct
taped a few together and they were still pretty rigid. Use the canes to
feed a draw-string, then use the string to pull the cable.
