Getting back to your original question. Attached is a spreadsheet that I
used to calculate the power for our house. It's fairly basic and doesn't
cover things like startup requirements (ie. Normally our fridge takes less
then 1Amp, however when turned on from the plug it draws nearly 7Amps (very
briefly)).
