That's exactly the setup I'm after.... When I get the time :-(

Under windows it is apparently possible, though the documentation is
scarce=
.
It seems to depend on the the sound card drivers used.
The only real references I could find were for PC based music mixing and
some source code in VB of all things.

If you fancy playing with linux take a look at 'Cajun MP3 player'. IIRC it
supports multiple sound cards and also LCD displays and keypads
