Re: NOT OT: Remote Control Socket.
Many Thanks.
I'm a bit confused, but this isn't a surprise as I know chuff all about
X10.
The first item looks good, but it only stands a 500w load. I think the
load would be more than that.
Basically I was going to attach everything I wanted to switch off to a gang
socket. In my case TV, DVD, Cd Player, Record Deck.
My Amp will be switched off in the normal way with Pronto, but I was going
to send an extra code signal to turn the socket off.
So i'm assuming it works this way.
Is it that the controller converts IR to X10, then the socket receives the
X10 and does the required action?
How many actions can be done ... It seems it would be on-off for devices ,,
which is fine obviously. For lighting, I assume Bright / Dim mean make
brighter or dimmer rather than just being preset settings ?
It also says it contolls 10 devices, so this could be lights around the
house? or a ceiling fan ?
If I wanted to control things from the bedroom rather than the lounge, I
jsut buy another controller and it works in the same way as the one in the
lounge ?
Cheers
Dave

Subject: [ukha_d] NOT OT: Remote Control Socket.
Not OT at all - this is core Home Automation stuff.
X-10 is the technology sir requires. The "not very nice looking"
way
to do what you want would be to get an "Appliance module" per
device
you want to on-off control...
... and an IR receiver module (which you can program your Pronto to
use.)
Appliance module at: http://www.simplyautomate.com/productDisplay.asp?
prodId=3389&Affiliate=633
IR module at: http://www.simplyautomate.com/productDisplay.asp?
prodId=3428&Affiliate=633
X10 is a bit like a train set - you start with a couple of bits, and
a year later discover you've bought 40 :-)

Mark

mains lead at Maplin which detects that a master socket is off and
cuts power to the slaves, but ..

I could turn off with my remote. I have a Pronto 950 (does IR and RF
(limited capabiklity))
