This is exactly how mine works.  I have the main door and hall as
entry/exit zones so the timer starts when you open the door.  Also the
timer starts when you walk down the stairs in the morning (* see note).
All upstairs zones are not armed when in night mode.

* Actually to be true the alarm disarms when you walk down stairs as when
you trigger the landing PIR it starts a timer that if still running when
the bottom one get triggered disarms the alarm automatically.
