I _think_ you should be able to use "xbox-usb-convrt" --> few
repeaters -->
"usb-xbox convert" --> 1 controller

You won't be able to use a hub and multiple controllers on the end as you
can only have one xbox controller plugged into each port, I think it is
something to do with the inbuilt hub in the controller.

Again, I havn't tried anything, and this is from my head :)

I will eventually try ( when I have the house finished) splitting an xbox
controller lead in half, sticking 10m or thereabouts of cat5 in the middle
and playing with the voltage/repeaters to see if that works.
