I’ve tried e through g firmware - no difference.
I’ll get some different blanks (I bought 20 of the 4x speed ones
which has effectively wasted the extra money I paid for them :-( )

Must be, works fine here using Nero, not tried DVDXCopy yet. What firmware
though, I'm now on "g" IIRC?
