Here's the problems with it....

1. This group is run, more or less, like a big conversation down the pub
and
the vast majority of people like it that way, myself included.

2. Much of the conversation is HA related, if it doesn't interest you then
there is always that button marked "delete" ;)

3. Personally, although I am sometimes not even remotely interested in the
thread I find things in it I didn't know and often didn't know that I
wanted
to know about it, but it pushes me in new directions.

Now we've been over this ground many times and the opinion is always the
same, keep the group as it is and that is unfailingly the will of the group
as whole, Mark has even held votes on the subject.

I appreciate what you are saying, I appreciate the thought behind it but I
cannot say that I necessarily agree with the POV.

Generally things like the drunken conversations, of which I too have been
guilty in the past, the little flurries for a few weeks of activity on a
particular subject all die down in time. Hence we arrive at the belief in
self-moderation and not banning OT stuff, which I know myself I just would
not like one bit, as I am sure others wouldn't either and, by implication,
that means harsher moderation of topics. Often the OT stuff is funny,
interesting or just plain harmless, I don't see the problem here at all and
I don't see the need for an additional group either. If something starts to
get beyond a joke one of the moderators steps in and asks for it to stop,
either on or off list as applicable.

Earlier this evening I suggested talking about PVRs/HDD
recording/alternative video recording on UKHA_TiVo and it has met with a
mixed reaction, why? Because some of it is very relevant to the HA
community
as a whole in the form of whole house audio/video so my question is...

Where do you draw the lines?

K.
