I use Outlook 2000 as my mail client and prevent HTML emails cailling home
using my free desktop firewall client ZoneAlarm.

Basically I've configured it to reject outgoing requests to the internet
for
Outlook.exe. It is still able to receive email (I think that uses a
different executable?), but HTML emails are image free etc (if the images
arn't put of the message).

Maybe not a very elegant solution but it certainly works. Using windows
you'd be supprised how many different executables try and call home.
ZoneAlarm helps me keep that in check.
