I'm definitely no expert in telecoms, but I did what you describe. My
phon=
es are now distributed on CAT5, but leaving the master box alone, so that
i=
f I get a telecoms problem that requires BT to investigate, I can easily
un=
plug the lot, and not get charged by BT for 'breaking' things.

Apart from that, I couldn't find any standards on the web for converting
be=
tween RJ45 and BT 4pin (can't remember the name!) sockets, so I just used
t=
he four middle pins (3456) of the RJ45, mapped to pins 2345 of the BT
wirin=
g. Doing it this way means that I can't run both BT and ethernet down one
=
wire (ethernet uses 1234 of cat5), but then I've put enough cables in not
t=
o have to worry about that anyway.

Anyone out there know how it *should* be done?

Jake.

Subject: [ukha_d] Moving my BT phones sockets into a patch panel
Hi,
I'm about to board the loft and wire every room in my house with Cat5.
At the same time I'd like to get my BT phone sockets intergrated into a
patch.
Is there anything I should be aware of before I attempt this? Do I still
need one master socket and then wire everything from that? Is there a
patch panel that can do the job for me? What would be the best way to do
it?
Any help anyone can provide will be most appreciated.
Thanks,
G
