Ahh yes I remember now. I knew someone else had done them but couldn't
remember who. From your pics they look pretty bright, even with other
ambient lighting (street lights ?). Nice idea to recycle the lamp assys. -
give a neat finish.

What's the purpose of the bridge rectifier ? Why would you need to add it
in if you swapped to LV halogens ? (back emf ?)

I have also done some led garden lighting.....which was of
course inspired by Ians great work........The bright green leds cost $5.00
each and i put them in clusters of 3 in each garden lite..The blue ones
(not
quite as bright) cost a $1.00 each ....I used a 12 ac system with a bridge
rect at each lite so i can also connect standard halogen lites if i
