I do it the other way round. I use the TiVo remote for normal TV use.
When I press either the TiVo or Live TV button on the remote control,
HomeVision turns on the TV, turns on the AV amp and selects the
appropriate inputs. Of course, HomeVision knows what state everything is
in, so it only changes the bits it needs to.

When I turn the TiVo off, HomeVision turns off the TV and AV amp, too. I
have the DVD and Xbox remotes working similarly.

When going to bed, however, I press a button on the X-10 controller near
the door. Homevision then turns off the TV, turns off the amp, turns off
any lights in the living room, except the main light which it raises to
full brightness and then turns off 30 seconds later.

SWMBO only has to worry about the TiVo remote, and she has one of her
own, so the WAF is _huge_ (relatively).

As others have mentioned, switching the TiVo to standby only turns off
the audio and video outputs, so I don't worry about HomeVision leaving
it turned on.
