Graham,

Given that 32Mb isn't that much.... we could try creating a dummy group,
checking that it only had 32Mb allocated, and then posting a series of
longish (but without attachments) messages to it.

After all, a 100k message would only need posting 320 times to hit the
limit, and between 8 of us, that's only 40 posts.

Anyone interested in running the test?

No, the KAT5 group only has 658 messages and yet has 512Mb. The xAP 
group, Tivo group and others exceed this message count but only have 
32Mb. I think it is a recent limit imposed by Yahoo.
