Being particularly bored at work today I have been checking out the
group through the web interface. I noticed something in
the 'messages' view which appears to be quite new. At the top and
bottom right of every list of messages is a little note showing
current 'usage' against 'available'. For this group it shows:- Using
292.9 of 512 MB (57%).

So (and remember I am bored at work) I did a little number crunching
and based upon the last 12 months posts, this means that in 15 months
we will run out of space here!

I then had a look at various other groups I subscribe to and found
something even more worrying, new groups only get 32Mb of space! That
means that at current rates, the xAP group (already at 14%) only has
about 10 months until it dies.

The average message size for each of these groups appears to be about
5K, so new groups get about 6500 messages (i.e. 2 months worth here)
before they keel over.

I did check with Mark and he was happy for me to post this here, but
please DO NOT use it as a trigger to yet again slag off Yahoo. What
would be useful is if someone can shed some light on why this
information has suddenly come appeared and how it might be related to
the 'pay model' that Yahoo have been touting.

Regards

Graham
