RE: RE: (OT) PC display on TV
Interesting topic this, which comes around time and again.
With my ntl digial settop box, if I pull up the menus which are
overlays
generated by the box, I find the text much sharper in scart-RGB than in
anything else. This 'computer generated' stuff shows the difference
very
clearly. I run in rgb mode all the time.
With the matrox g400 series, the 'dual-head' allows output to TV. It
comes bundled with an s-video and composite output. It is possible to
make a SCART RGB lead. With scart rgb, the tv output is much sharper.
So the best TV out I've seen is a matrox card with scart rgb cable.
There are issues with drivers that seem to snag on things all the time,
so check into the current status before jumping in.
If the panasonic has vga input, get a matrox dualhead card, and you can
clone displays and have a really sharp picture (don't know if your set
has that or not, I guess not or you would have mentioned it).
(NOTE: I have read rumours regarding scart rgb out on ati cards, but as
of yet I've never owned or seen one)

Peter,
Fine text will NEVER look good on a TV output but can look quite
reasonable.
What resolution is the PC running?
What size text are you trying to display?
What is the ACTUAL resolution of the LCD ?
You mention is it a Widescreen LCD TV as opposed to an LCD Monitor so
the resolution of the display is probably lower than what you are
sending to it. The means the display will be scaling the image to fit
and that generally screws the definition completely.
Have you tried it on an conventional CRT TV?
It should be quite acceptable on that.
If it is, then play about with PC resolution (you may have to drop to
640x480) and font size on the information you are trying to display.

All
In the office I've got a 22" Panasonic LCD widescreen running off a
PC
with S-Video out for corporate videos and that kinda thing.
Only problem is that the picture quality ain't great - it's OK for
movies, but any text looks very ragged. Unfortunately there are no
VGA
inputs on the TV, just RF, Scart and S-Video. Are there any obvious
way
to improve this? The (ATI AIW) AV out on the TV card has 9 pins,
so
plugged into that is the supplied converter that splits the output into
audio and S-Video. Plugged into that is a 3mtr S-Video lead of
average
quality, but I have used a better 1mtr cable with no great improvement
in quality. The card was only a short-term measure, so that can
be
replaced if it'll make a big difference. Any ideas?
Pete
