BT Connection charges

As it's Friday afternoon I though I just share a conversation that
I've just had with BT over our phone connection for my selfbuild. Due
to the fact that we are about 1/2 mile from the nearest telephone
connect, a BT engineer came out to do a survey. Any installation work
over 100 man hours is charged by BT (standard procedure), so I knew
that we would have to pay something.

I've been give two options, 1) Overhead cables on telephone poles,
=A3750, option 2) (and he was laughing when he gave me the quote) for a fully underground solution is =A320,000. He then asked which one I was
interested in!

I've actually asked for the second quote so I can frame it.
