RE: Re: OT: Audi keyfob
I agree - any 'serious' car security uses rolling code. But this code
is
transmitted on a frequency between those I previously listed. It's
like
Infra-Red remote controls, many remotes use the same carrier frequency
(say
32kHz), but they each transmit a different series/spacing of on/off bits
in
order to control different kit. If a button on a remote sends the
same
'digital' code every time it is pressed it is called "Fixed
Code", if the
digital code changes every time the same button is pressed it's
"Rolling
Code".
To make a rolling code transmitter from scratch without knowing the
algorithm used in the receiver would be nigh on impossible.
Depending on how the receiver is implemented in the A4 and how tight you
are
<g>, you may be able to pick up a transmitter/receiver pair from
(dare I say
it) a breakers yard... (friend of mine recently picked up a Renault
Tx/Rx
pair for 20 pounds)

I was under the impression Audi like a nummber of other manufacturers
use coded remotes with rolling code technology to make it harder for
people to open the car without the proper article.
BMW used to charge about 100 quid for a new one, wouldn't have
thought Audi could justify charging much more.
