In the summer I was looking for a new car to replace my Alfa GTV (after 5 yrs of good service). I test drove the VX220 and although it drove VERY
well, it was just to uncomfortable. When in the drivers seat, there is a large intrusion into the legspace on the right from what must be the
chassis. The boot space is tiny and like you said, there are no creature comforts at all. This may be fine for the odd track day, but I would find i= t
impossible to use (& enjoy) every day.

I had never liked BMWs - mainly 'cos of the dipshit antics of the people wh= o
drive them. I had never liked the idea of convertibles 'cos it just looks like the driver is saying 'heh, look at me'.

Well I found a car that did 0-60 in 5.4s & LOTS of creature
comforts............ a BMW M Roadster.

and i love it- the power is just amazing

I know it is based on the old 3-series, but it is still 10 times better tha= n
the Alfa and much more comfortable.

And I have got over my anxiety of driving with roof down - it is fantastic<= BR> (except it always stays up in Nottingham city centre - I don't like that much attention)

Some car magazine said that 'the only people who don't like BMWs are people=
who have never driven/owned one' - well for me that was totally true.

Cheers

(phew!)... got away with that one... ;-)

I'm steadily compiling enough material for a book or a TV program devoted purely to the subject of the driving and roadcraft habits of BMW drivers...=
I plan to format it as a kind of spoof version of the highway code book...<= BR>
e.g:

"Q: What is the procedure when approaching two lanes of merging traffi= c?"

"A: - 1: slow down and attempt to merge in turn"

"A: - 2: floor it at full speed past both queues and push in right at = the
front"

"Q: What is the purpose of the minimum braking distance between vehicl= es
travelling at speed?"

"A: - 1: to promote safety by avoiding collisions in the event of the = sudden
braking of the vehicle in front"

"A: - 2: These gaps are provided for the benefit of BMW's to ensure th= at
they can freely swerve across all three lanes of a carriageway to take up their preferred position (in the overtaking lane)"

No prozes for guessing the answers... ;-)

and it starts from only a tad over =A321K... :-)

I would have to agree,  - I don't think the 220 is a realistic proposi= tion
this time round, - just there to add a bit of fantasy I suppose, - but at the end of the day, SWMBO likes her creature comforts too much, and probabl= y
wouldn't get on with a "proper" sports car... I also would not co= ntemplate
buying a car without aircon ever again, so that point is also true. Sat-nav=
is such a wonderful invention that I'd have to agree with you on that one a= s
well...
