    Tivo's CAN'T be used as a normal TV recorder without a
subscription I'm
afraid - they go into what is known as a 'boat anchor' mode when the
initial
setup data expires and this is about all they are useful for.

    There are some workarounds to this that are discussed on
the various
mailing lists - mainly aimed at recovering a base level of functionality
for
manual recording though.
