It all depends on what you want to boot to. I have a minimal CF OS/2
partition which takes around 4 secs to get to a command prompt on a old
system. If I add more device drivers it takes longer.


This is a 2MB CF card which you probably can't get any more. If you could
you wouldn't want to pay more than a quid for one.
