Basically there are 3 standards for DVD writing.... - + and RAM.

DVD-R and DVD-RW are allegedly aimed at data
DVD+R and DVD+RW are allegedly aimed at video
DVD-RAM isn't compatible with normal DVD Players, but lets you do
reading and writing at the same time (I'm pretty sure) which lets you do
Tivo like functionality... start recording something then start watching
5 minutes behind.

The new Sony drive supports DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW along with the
normal CD burning standards.

Various surveys suggest one format more compatible than the other format
and vice-versa, hence buying a dual standard drive to maximize the
options... :)

I saw on www.dvdwriters.co.uk that Komplett and a couple of other people
have started preorders for them. Komplett is estimating the delivery
date for 8/11.....
