Yes, every three minutes.

Yes, that is a problem however I can give you a workaround using HV
right away (well with a Pronto anyway)...

Get Pronto to send a universal code to HV when the "red button" is
pressed on the Pronto to set a flag in HV disabling the IR send of the
backup command. When "exit" is pressed send the same code again telling
HV to clear the flag and re-enable the send.

Rough, probably needs some working on to get it right, but in theory it
should work just fine.
