Take a 9 pin plug, and link pins 2 & 3. This is a loopback plug.
Then use hyperterminal, configured for "no handshaking" - none of
the
other settings matter.
Open the first port on your serial card.
Move the (loopback) plug from one port to the next, until such a time
as characters get echoed to the screen. You've now identified the
given port.
Lather, rinse, repeat :-)
