RE: Stair Mats

Tony,

EXACTLY! That's the problem I'd been thinking of. It's more complex still, since a 2-stepper might not ALWAY 2-step.

I guess I need _4_ mats, and depending on the order they're pressed in, I can work out what's happening:

1,2,3,4 - UP
1,2,3 - UP
1,2,4 - UP
1,3 - UP
1,3,4 - UP
2,3,4 - UP
2,3 - UP
2,4 - UP

4,3,2,1 - DOWN
4,3,1 - DOWN
4,2,1 - DOWN
4,2 - DOWN
3,2,1 - DOWN
3,2 - DOWN
3,1 - DOWN

Actually - now I've done that, it's clearly a lot easier... all I need to look at is the FIRST mat pressed, and I can work out the direction - if it's 1/2, then someone's going up - if it's 3/4, then someone's going down

Obviously, no-one in my house is a 3-stepper.

- I'm too fat
- Mary's too short
- Phillippa's too unable to walk yet

Regards,

Mark

Ah, but this won't catch the case of the alternate step person- perhaps u
need one on the 1st two stairs - or indeed, to catch the wiley 3-stepper,
the 1st three steps :-)
