RE: OT: APS Camera Suggestions

Tony,

You're confusing the cost of REPRINTS with the cost of prints supplied when= films are developed. REPRINTS are always much more expensive.

To make the comparison based on prints supplied at time of developing:

- A set of 9x6 prints, for 25 shots, will cost the 7.99 on 35mm.
- A set of "APS prints", will again cost 7.99. Jessops don't say,= but I'm guessing this is the standard 7x4 size.
- So, for the same money, you get 9in wide, not 7in.
- However, you need to get out the scissors :-)

To make the comparison on reprints:

- =A32.49 buys you a 10x8 on 35mm
- =A32.49 buys 8.75x5 on APS.
- So for the same money, you get 10in wide, not 8.5in
- Again, you need to get out the scissors.

In fact, I pay less than =A38 to have developing / prints for _36_ shot fil= ms (rather than 24), with 10x8 prints (rather than 9x6), by sending them of= f to a specialist, rather than paying high street prices for my developing.=

Don't get me wrong - if you want the "sexy" feature of being able= to choose the cropping at the time you take the photo, then go APS. But be= aware that you're paying a premium (or getting a worse product for the sam= e budget), whichever way you look at it.

M.

Mark suggested something similar about cutting your own photos.
To get the equivalent of an APS panoramic picture from a normal camera, I would have to request 10x8's or even larger maybe, then cut them down to size.
This is going to be a lot more expensive and a lot more hassle than just taking a panoramic piccie with an APS camera.

Having a quick look on Jessops site, it is 7.99 for 25 APS prints in any format - so I could have them all panoramic for that price.  A 10 x 8 = is
=A32.49 =3D =A362.25 for the same number of prints at about the same size (= once
they've been cropped at home).
This is where cost _is_ an issue.

At the same time, Paying 7.99 instead of about a fiver for the same number<= BR> of prints, about the same size is NOT an issue.

Do you follow the logic now?
