Follow up:
I have figured out that, if I lived in the UK, the Maritek AWM2 Micro
Module
would work fine, allowing me to retrofit existing switches to X10.

Anyone seen or heard of a 110V version of that module, or something
similar?
I have emailed maritek, with no response...

Any help appreciated.  I wish that there was a
"Just-as-knowledgeable-and-easy-going" USHA group like this
one...
