Graham,

I believe you're correct for the DIP switch programming.
I think you'll find that each colour is adressable via an 8bit register over
DMX512 to give the 16M quoted.

According to the PDF documentation for the  strips in the bulk buy,
we can only have 255 colour tones which I think is correct as each of
R,G and B can use 3 DIP switches (which whould give 8 values per set
of leds). There is the possibility to set overall brightness or
intensity, but this would not produce a different 'tone'.
