Looking at my bits of Fuji on the desk - the touch screen just sits 
on top of the LCD screen (separated and held in place by a thin 
rubber-like strip around the edge). Can't see why you couldn't do 
what you wanted as long as it isn't too far from the LCD screen 
(pointer could be less accurate depending if you're viewing from 
straight on or from the side). You'd need to run the connector 
ribbon (flat) around the glass and seal it though.
