Nope, TivoNet/ Turbonet is not a kernel hack, its just some extra 
modules or something (this is where it goes way over my head.... :) )

AIUI, the problem is the 133Gb limit is hardcoded into the linux kernel
which the Tivo runs with. Doing a full kernel upgrade would mean the 
Tivo software wouldn't be fully compatible, so modifications are made to
the kernel to hack the 133Gb limit and modify it.

Get a TurboNet, its great :)
