OT: Digital Video Cameras

Sorry for the OT, but the wealth of knowledge cant be suppressed.


I'm looking for a digital video camera and have two questions.


      Firstly do all makes use the same data
format on the tape. E.G I
can play a tape in a JVC that was recorded on a Panny.

      And secondly can I get a machine the will
playback tape recorded
on an American machine ?


Also can anyone recommend an online supplier.
