Rio Receivers - new capabilities

Dear UKHAers,

Apologies for the cross-post, but the Moderators of UKHA_D have expressed concern that some threads of more general interest are suffering from being in the spinoff groups, and therefore asked those of us who moderate the spin-offs to post occassional updates / items to interest to the main group... Followup discussion to UKHA_LanAudio, though, please.

Owing to some new software, Rio Receivers (aka DDARs) can now support the following directly (ie - without transcoding on the server):

- MP3
- WMA
- FLAC
- OGG
- Shoutcast Streams

Fuller details, giving details of the software options, including restrictions, are on http://jreceiver.sourceforge.net/rio/jrec-faq-rio.html

Furthermore, the new version of JReceiver - 0.2.4 is now available. For those who have expressed an interest in JRec before, but have struggled with the installation - you'll be glad to know that it's somewhat easier - with one of the major components no longer required, and the documentation rather better written than when I was writing JRec docs ;-)

The new tag parser can extract ID3 tags from MP3, Ogg, FLAC and even WMA files.  It'll even extract Vorbis tags from FLAC files.  There's a etc/tag-policy.xslt file which determines which tags have priority. It also supports the new XML-based Winamp playlist type: B4S.
