Any objection you make has to be to do with planning regulations i.e.
blocks light, being overlooked (which you may get but sure you over look
him also you may be able to force him to put obscured glass in a window
that directly overlooks your property).

As for the effect of it on the price of your property, its not covered by
planning regs so not relevant to the planning application.  As for my
general view, loads of people have done the same in our street, I think if
lots of other properties have been extended it won't have too much effect.
