Stephen,

I was mulling this over on a dull afternoon at work last week.

With corded curtain rail, an Appliance module, a 6V power supply, AND
a ?9.99 alkaline battery powered cordless screwdriver from Argos... it might
just work....

All it needs is a small electronic box of tricks to swap the connections to
screwdriver each time it's powered up from the 6V PSU via the appliance
module. That way A1-ON the curtains open, A1-OFF 10 seconds later. Then
A1-ON (connections are reversed) curtains close, A1-OFF. Etc.

Alas, my capablities were exceeded at that point but there can't be much
more than a latched DPDT relay (available from Maplin for a ?5) to it.

I reckon ?25 for the appliance module, ?10 for the motor, ?5 for the PSU,
?10 for the control box, ?1 for a 'U' shaped bracket to hold the motor to
the wall... Around ?50 per window, much more my price range, so I can 'do'
the whole house for a few hundred... :)

Anyone what to design the box...

Lee.

I looked in the curtain control section. Ouch! Three hundred pounds to
automate one curtain rail, it would cost thousands to do the whole
house! I think it will be better to buy a corded curtain rail, a
motor, and an x10 module. The first and last one shouldn't be
difficult...can anyone recommend a good motor for this purpose?
