iPronto
by David Webster dvwebster@xxxxxxx on Monday, September 30 @08:44PM

I have just come back from the CEDIA show in Minneapolis where I saw the new
iPronto first hand. It is amazing! However there are no immediate plans for
a European launch as there is no EPG service that it can work with here -
yet! The price includes a 3 year subscription to the USA EPG after which a
small subscription will be needed. The EPG works with the IR remote
functions to select the channel you want directly by tapping the program in
the listing. The built-in web browser is really intended for a DSL type of
connection through a wireless network and be on the LCD at the same time as
remote control pages. In fact upto 4 remote control pages can be used at
once. The built-in speakers are currently only for sound effects but
streaming audio is an expected upgrade. The unit has a headphone socket and
a SD card slot which could be useful. There is no docking station for
battery charging - instead you just plug in the PSU. Very lightweight case
looks good and has a built-in tilt stand. The LCD panels is very clear and
bright - much better than the ProntoPro.
