Comfort Home Controls sell or sold a range of wireless alarm modules, including a magnetic door sensor. This solution would only be any use to you if you have something like Comfort though - so you can easily convert the N/C output to something more X10 or home automation friendly. It would however be by far the most reliable solution to sensing the door open - variations on using X10 senders that I can think of would presumably only send a pulse when the door first opened, which wouldn't be anywhere near reliable enough for me to be happy with.

FWIW, I've been toying with the idea of adding the wireless magnetic sensor to my Conservatory door in a bid to automate turning off the heating to that room when the door is open. Price has discouraged me so far though, so if you come up with a cheaper way for reliable wireless sensing of the door status then please let me know.

Ray Barnett.
