After Ken's advice when I asked this a couple of months ago, I got a
couple of Papst fans.... 12dba, you can only just hear them with nothing
on, but as soon as the amp is outputing anything they're inaudiable, and
thats screwed direct to the cheap and nasty backing board on a pine
cabinet (make sure you nail the backing board in well especially if its
el cheapo one to prevent vibrations.... :D ) if you were really picky
you could mess around with a rubber dampening interface to really
minimize the vibration, but its fine for me as it is.
Several places sell Papst... I ended up getting mine from
Overclockers.co.uk because Kustom didn't have any in stock IIRC....
Set them up with a standard maplins multi voltage job with end cut off
into a choccy block junction.... not very advanced, but it works... :D
Put it on an X10 module to get it going off at power down times (going
to bed or going out) and on when amp is powered up.
Not put a thermometer in there yet, but my sony amp went from literally
too-hot-to-touch to barely warm.
