Re: Mail Servers... less OT :-)

Hi Mark,

I've played too a lot with Exchange in tha last years, starting from version 4.0, but... I still like to play with it....
Exchange 2000 is a wonderful product, a lot more than a simple mail server.... but the reverse is that you have to pay a lot, even if you want just mail functionality...

Dan
P.S. Escuse me for the "play" word.. I don't want to ofense nobody....:-))

  Dan,

I've played with more Exchange servers in my life than I ever want to :-)

This is, however, for home, where I don't have someone else paying the bills  :-)

  Regards,

  Mark

  Hi,

If you want to use MAPI type client (like Outloox 9x/2000/XP) then you need
  Exchange.
If you want folders on server, any mail server supporting IMAP4 is good.
You can try Pegasus Mail which is free:
  http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_winpmail.htm
It provides a lot of features, including server based filters.
A free web mail server is iMate Free Web Mail Server 2.0.5
  http://www.studna.cz/go/detail.php/fid/517

  Dan
P.S. You can use Exchange 2000 for free, but only for 120 days (the
evaluation version)...enough to play with it..:-))

Can anyone recommend me a good mail server...

What I -really- want is a free Exchange clone... ie, it must have the
  following capabilities:

1: I can point Outlook at it
2: It supports subfolder on the SERVER
3: I can point a web client at it
4: It supports server-side rules to file messages meeting certain criteria

  Any ideas?

  Regards,

  Mark
