If it's an 'angle' problem then all that is needed is a reflective
surface that is line of sight to both receiver and the remote control.

OTOH if it's a weak signal or has interference from e.g. sunlight
then you need an active booster.

I use a small (1cm x 2cm) piece of aluminium foil strategically
placed so that my TiVo can send IR signals to a set-top-box.

I also have a scrunched-up ball of foil hanging from the curtain
poll in my study.  I can point a remote at the window and control
the Hi-Fi equipment that is wall-mounted behind me.

Aluminium Foil is sold for cooking by supermarkets (but don't
confuse it with 'cooking foil' as this is actually plastic and
non-reflective).
