Someone asked me to give my opinions on the Nextbase DVD player, and the
6"
TFT screen I ordered from http://www.merconnet.com
The website looks good, and very cheap, so I decided on the Nextbase
DVD
player, and a 6" TFT screen. I almost bought them as a bundle
before I
realised the bundle was almost $20 more than buying them seperately.
I
ordered around 10 days ago. When the "2-4 days" delivery
time had elapsed,
I called to ask where my package was. They couldn't find my details
and
asked if they could call me back. They didn't.
I received an email saying they'd not be able to deliver my TFT for 45
days.
They then said they'd sell me other screens for good prices. These
good
prices were identical to the prices on the website. What a
gesture! I said
they could keep the screen, and I'll just take the DVD player. I
called to
confirm, but my details were not to hand, so they asked to call back.
Needless to say they didn't.
I tried again a few times over Thursday and Friday last week.
Couldn't get
any useful information out of the person on the other end of the
phone. At
this point I gave up and decided I'd acll Barclaycard on Monday.
Today,
before I'd had time to call Barclaycard, a package arrived on my
desk. It
was teh hallowed DVD player, but without the mains adapter! It's
better
than nothing, I suppose. I did notice that the DHL man collected the
parcel
on Friday, a whole 8 days after I ordered.
Anyway, I got the player home tonight, and I'm well impressed. It's
very
tiny, and feels well engineered, with a nice feel to the buttons. I
tried
VCDs, CD-Rs with MPEG2 video, JPEGs, MP3s and other file formats on
them.
The interface was easy to use, and it played everything just right. I
could
even navigate to JPEGs a few folders deep in the CD and do a slide show
of
them. It was everything I wished my previous DVD player was, and
more. The
only thing I thought it lacked was a switching SCART output, but in
fairness, there's not enough room on the back!
Whilst the player seemed great, the main fault is that after half an hour
of
use, it now makes a high pitched screeching noise, and does not read
discs.
I'm undecided as to whether I'll get another one or a refund. Gawd
knows
how I'll get on with a refund/exchange from http://www.merconnet.com
To top it all off, my Telewest cable has just gone off line for the
first
time since April :-/
