Would this really give any practical advantage?  The advantage of using something like the WM14 is that you can control the volume of each speaker locally and independantly from the others without having to add extra amplifiers.  I found from practical experience that independant volume control can be essential.  I started with switches and had add the volume control when I found that switches alone were inadequate.

If you insist on relays then make sure that they have gold contacts or after a while you may have problems with poor continuity.
