RE: Toro Water Valve
So what you are planning is a system that works like Ian's and mine
(that's
two separate systems before anyone asks, as opposed to our jointly own
system!). We have 12v valves from RS that I control via HomeVision
and one
of Ian's relay boards. Four valves in all and I have one of HV's
input
ports wired up to a rain bucket so that it can calculate how much extra
water is needed. Some slightly out of date details on my site (link
below)
but it should have the RS part details.

The plan is two fold.
First to replace the timer system that we use on an outside tap for
watering
the garden with something a little more dynamic - eg water at x time for
y
minutes only if it has not rained today. The valve would need to cope
with
mains pressure for this.
The second part is to control the zones in the watering system for
example
-
hanging basket zone need watering daily in the summer, but not at all
in
the
winter green house zone needs to be watered daily regardless.
For the zone control the water pressure on the valve is significantly
reduced.

What are you planning to automate with this?
As for the on off, this is the normal practice. I don't know what you
mean
by connecting directly to the mains - sorry

Does anyone have any experience of the Toro Water Valve that Laser are
selling ? It says that it takes 12v - 24v, would I be correct in
assuming
that turning the power off closes the valve and turning the power on
turns
the valve to open ?
If so I presume an appliance module with adapter would allow me to
automate
the valve ?? Does anyone know if this one can be attached directly to
the
mains (unlike the 240v version letsautomate)
Thanks,
Mark
