True, you'd have to do some mods (if possible) Easier if the unit had
separate sync extractor and generator -

Composite, S-Video or Component would be easy.
RGBS would NOT be easy using any off the shelf unit.
You would have to overlay the image on one or more of the colour signals,
if
choosing one then Green would easiest as that is the most visible
colour
although it would give you Green OSD. The big problem is that you have
to
Sync the OSD to the picture and the SYNC is in a different signal. An
off
the shelf unit is expecting basically Composite Video to overlay onto and
it
would lock to the Sync pulses in that signal.

So, It would'nt be too hard to put OSD in via a RGBS or Y-C connection
A quick and 'dirty' way I've used in the past is to basically 'tug' the
video signal with a transistor (effectively changing the termination)
to
superimpose text without affecting rest of the signal.
