I have an overlay generator from an old ETI project that uses a gated
oscillator, counter and SRAM (plus a PIC to load the ram),
You could do the video overlay yourself in software with the PIC or AVR e.g.

They are easy to use but the device used on them is no longer manufactured
which is a real pity as it is dead easy to use yourself with an AVR or PIC
micro.

I am looking to use one myself to do a simple caller ID interface which
switches the input on the scart to show the text or something like that? :o)

Speaking of this - does anyone know of a similar priced item for overlaying
a generic video signal (i.e. from PC) onto a TV signal?  (So I can do this
callerid overlay myself)
