...I know you guys have been trying to build quiet PCs but has anyone
seen any quiet 40mm fans?

I have a 16 port NetGear 10/100 Switch which has two 40mm fans in it and
which has been affectionately named "Whining Betty" because of the noise
she makes! I was toying with the idea of unplugging one or both of the
fans and seeing whether it runs too hot.
