Essentially for copy protection. Unless it has now been hacked, when you
plug the iPod into your Mac, you see it as a hard drive AND a music
player. Anything copied to the hard drive can't be read by the music
player and vice versa.

And I used to work for mStation and the iPod is light years ahead of the
that :-)
