After discussions with Dan it seems that for my application I will be
trying in the first instance to interface FirM into Misterhouse (Linux)
either directly or via modifications to LIRC daemon running on the same
box.

I will have perhaps other questions of a detailed nature later, but a
general question is how is the zone information (3 bit BCD value)
conveyed to the PC eg. have you used "unused" RS232 control
lines,
separate I/O, special serial command at end of IR data?
