BBC2's "Working Lunch" ran an item on on-line purchases, highlighting
the case of a guy who bought an LCD panel which had some defective
pixels.

Dabs refused to accept return of the item on the grounds that the
faulty pixels were within the manufacturer's spec.

Trading standards advised the guy that he could return the item under
the terms of "The Distance Selling Regulations 2000". I've not come
across this before, and for once it seems to work in the buyers
favour. The legislation gives a buyer the right to return any item
[*], unilaterally, in original condition, within 7 days, which is
bought on-line or by phone.

Dabs, of course, don't appear to like the Distance Selling
Regulations very much and blustered a lot about working with OFT and
the law being "grey" about what constituted "original condition", but
as WL commented, it doesn't seem that ambiguous!
